We have many photographs of Railways and stations in our district, this page is dedicated to images of trains, trucks, shunters that were seen working around the collieries. All these images are over 35 years old, the last coal mine closed in 1993 when Taff Merthyr finally shut due to the pit closure programme. Don Gatehouse in 1991 and other enthusiasts had the foresight to take many of the images we are fortunate to see on this website, a big thank you to them all. I have added some other images taken by dedicated photograthers, without whom we would not have these historic images, check out the other great work they have done, a lot of it can be found on Flickr

The old engine was left here for many years and children often played on it. Micky Tich, Russell Thomas, joe Hawkins and Philip Lewis can be seen doing that many years ago

Below we see the signal box that was just opposite Captains hill junction for Deep Navi and Taff Merthyr lines

Below we see a photograph by Michael Hart 1991 of the trucks being filled with coal and another a little earlier from Mick Jones, below that we see the same area when the colliery closed.

Mick Jones image from 1989 just a little further down the line

Two nice family photos but so sad to see the end of the railways at the pit
